Making Smoothies On-the-Go: Official Fat Flush Smoothie Shakedown TipsLet’s face it, you aren’t always at home with your full kitchen and appliances at your beck and call. This could pose a challenge, especially since smoothies—requiring, at some point, a freezer and a blender— are the main component of our plan. But let’s be honest, a lifestyle change carries lots of challenges that you are already overcoming! Is this the last obstacle you are faced with? You’re in good shape!

We have some tips and techniques that will make your smoothies just as good at work, on the road, or on vacation as they are at home!

Gather your travelin’ tools.

There’s no way you can lug that mega-sized Vitamix around with you everywhere you go. There are other “smoothie appliances” that are definitely travel-friendly. Blender Bottles are a go-to for many people on the Shakedown. They are BPA-free bottles that come with a resealable lid and a stainless steel ‘whisk ball’. You throw the ingredients into the bottle with the ball, seal the lid, and shake it up!

We have also found that, for work at least, small appliances like the Magic Bullet are helpful. Obviously for these, a power outlet is a necessity. They are really easy to use and small enough to fit in a cabinet or a drawer when not in use.

Preparation is key.

By now you’ve learned this is a recurring theme of the Shakedown, in general. Putting forethought into your daily plan is imperative when you’re making a lifestyle change. If what you were doing is what comes natural, then making a change has to be deliberate and intentional. After a while, the new habits will become natural! (I promise.)Need some specific prep ideas?

First, the fruit: pre-purée those babies! Brilliant as they are, Blender Bottles and smaller blenders can’t totally pulverize whole fruit chunks. (Although some people are a-ok with that!) If you need totally smooth fruit, purée your fruit ahead of time, pour it into ice cube trays or muffin tins (determining pre-measured serving sizes) and refreeze. Then when you’re headed out in the morning, take a cube or two—depending on serving size per cube— in your Bottle. After it sits for a bit, it will begin to thaw and will be perfect come smoothie time! You could even pre-purée your favorite smoothie fruit combos together, such as Blueberry Mint or Cherry Cinnamon. You could even do greens such as spinach or kale, as an added boost to the fruit cube.

The protein powder? Easy: plastic sandwich baggies! Put 1 scoop per baggie, that way all you have to do is grab and go!

Pre-mix the whole shebang!

If in-the-moment blending isn’t an option, why not blend the entire smoothie and freeze in a reusable bottle or plastic container? It might freeze solid, but experienced Shakers say take it out of the freezer and let it sit a bit. It will melt just enough to be perfect!
